Claims that Evidence Was Altered or Faked

Here are some articles in the JFK Assassination Questions section which deal with claims that particular items of evidence were altered or faked:

Did JFK’s Car Stop on Elm Street?

Dozens of witnesses are supposed to have claimed that President Kennedy’s limousine stopped on Elm Street during the shooting, presumably to make it easier for the shooters to hit JFK. The three home movies which depict the car during the shooting, however, do not appear to show the car coming to a halt. These home movies must, therefore, have been altered to cover up the actions of the Secret Service agent who was driving the car.

Fletcher Prouty and the Christchurch Star

A former military man, Fletcher Prouty, claimed that personal details about Oswald had been published in a New Zealand newspaper, the Christchurch Star, long before that information became public knowledge, in order to incriminate Oswald.

How Reliable Is the Medical Evidence?

The medical staff who examined President Kennedy in Parkland Hospital, Dallas, described his head wounds differently than did the pathologists who carried out the autopsy. These discrepancies, it is claimed, indicate that JFK’s body was snatched from Air Force One without anyone noticing, in order for his head to be surgically altered to hide evidence that all the shots came from the front. Here, the evicence that was altered or faked was President Kennedy’s body.

Is the ‘Harvey and Lee’ Theory Credible?

And here, the evicence that was altered or faked was Lee Harvey Oswald, who was in fact two people. One of them was an American who spoke English, the other a Hungarian refugee who spoke Russian. The American was named ‘Harvey’ and the Hungarian was named ‘Lee’, or possibly the other way round. Anyway, both Oswalds were inducted into a top-secret CIA scheme as boys, with the intention that they would grow up to look virtually identical, despite being unrelated. Fortunately for the CIA, they did indeed grow up to look virtually identical. One of these two Oswalds, moreover, managed to be 5′ 11″ tall in 1959 and 5′ 6″ a couple of years later. Each Oswald had a virtually identical-looking mother named Marguerite. On the day of the assassination, one of the Oswalds followed the other one around Dallas and even into the Texas School Book Depository, to frame the other Oswald for the assassination. Or something.

Is it Oswald or Lovelady in the Altgens 6 Photo?

James Altgens’s photograph no.6, taken during the assassination, seemed to show Lee Harvey Oswald on the front steps of the Texas School Book Depository when he was supposed to have been on the sixth floor, firing at JFK. According to some researchers, the man in the photograph was in fact one of Oswald’s colleagues, Billy Nolan Lovelady, who resembled Oswald. According to others, the photograph had been faked: Lovelady’s face had been pasted over Oswald’s. The reason for using Lovelady’s face, apparently, was to prevent people suspecting that Oswald was on the steps by replacing his head with the head of someone who looked so much like Oswald that it caused people to suspect that Oswald was on the steps.

Was CE 399, the ‘Magic Bullet’, Planted?

According to the official account, the Commission Exhibit 399 bullet had injured President Kennedy and Governor Connally, and was later discovered on Connally’s stretcher at Parkland Hospital. Later interviews with the hospital employee who discovered a bullet, and with the FBI agent who handled that bullet, suggest that CE 399 may not have been the bullet that was discovered in Parkland Hospital.

Was the Zapruder Film Altered?

Some people claim that the Zapruder film has been altered to cover up evidence of conspiracy. Some even claim that the entire film is a fabrication. Bizarrely, if this claim were true, the main item of physical evidence that contradicts the lone-nut hypothesis would need to be discarded.

Was the TSBD Sixth-Floor Paper Bag Genuine?

A home-made paper bag was apparently discovered by the Dallas police close to the so-called sniper’s nest on the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository. According to the Warren Commission, this bag had been assembled by Oswald and used by him to carry his rifle into the building on the morning of the assassination. There are, however, good reasons to doubt the authenticity of the bag.
